I never used to have a muse. I would listen to other authors wax lyrical about their muse. The way they misbehaved. The inspiration they provided. The way they would bugger off and leave them high and dry mid plot. I did wonder for a while if perhaps these writers had a bit too much of the Chivas Regal, or had been smoking something other than tobacco. Yes, I know we all make up lives for imaginary people but we know they’re not real…don’t we?

 

A muse it seems, however, can cross the ditch from imagination to reality at the drop of a hat, or in my case a sexy leather g-string. Yes, it seems one of my former bit characters has taken up the job of muse in residence. Demanding bugger that he is, I have been forced under duress to write his story, all 95,000 erotic words of it.

As if it’s not bad enough he has me under a spell, he has even captivated the mind of my acquisitions editor. The woman demanded I add more and make this book the biggest thing I have ever written because Michael deserved it. Yes, Michael is his name. Michael Monaghan. A lewd and sensuous Irish individual with a wicked accent, a wild imagination and a way of taking his clothes off to music that provides him a comfortable lifestyle, complete with an expensive apartment and a Porsche with the licence plate HARD ON.

So, with an apartment of his own, why is he hanging around at my place? I’ve done the first draft of his book, and I think I can handle editing alone. Alas, Mr. Monaghan has other ideas, and his demands become ever more bizarre. He now wants a website of his own.  Next it will be a Facebook page and a Twitter account!

He has threatened to stay and help me write my next book, which thankfully he has no part in.
