hot male cover

Dear Michael.

I need to have words with you.

You caught my attention back in your first book, Male Order, with your flirty smile and cheeky chat-up lines. You made my heart pitter-patter in your second book, Male Review, and I fell in love with you then. How could I not?

When the fabulous Lillian Grant announced that you were going to have your own book, I can’t tell you how excited I was. I stalked you a bit too, checking out your website and reading your interviews, but I knew you wouldn’t mind.

And then you broke my heart.

You fell in love with Meg.

Yours, always,

“He’s f*cking magnificent. Who is he?”
Pete’s breath warmed the back of her neck. “His name’s Michael Monaghan.”

Michael was always a little in love with Meg, right from their sweet first kiss when she pledged her teenaged heart to him. He was older, already a sex-God, and had big ideas for his life. Maggie, as he called her, had no place in his plans.

It seemed like another lifetime, and in reality it probably was. The youthful exuberance was gone, replaced by what exactly? Back then he had assumed he would conquer the world, but instead he had conquered a small bar down the road where men got naked for money.

Seeing his life flash by in the first few chapters was mesmerising. All those women…but none captured his heart until he met up again with the grown up Meg Riley. Only problem, Meg had already found herself a man. Sam Stephens, gym-instructor, and gorgeous-hunk-of-manliness.

She shrugged but couldn’t stop the blood rushing to her face. “I don’t need you to be my knight in shining armour any more.”
“You’ve got Sam.”

The story of how Michael keeps butting in on Meg’s life, causing her no end of trouble, is outlined briefly for new readers to the series, and I feared that there might be repetition in this catch-up. Silly me. Lillian Grant is too experienced a writer to make that mistake. Instead, she used the flashbacks to show us Michael’s insight, to let us take the journey with him, and see just how much he really feels for Meg. It’s short, and teases us with the promise of the Real Michael, the delicious man who goes racing to Ireland (with Meg and Sam in tow) to rescue Meg’s crazy great aunt (yep, Maud makes a welcome return), and hopefully save the day.

The story is peppered throughout with little nuggets of beautiful writing:

Smoke swirled from the chimneys and washing flapped stiffly in the bone-chilling wind.
“Is she expecting us?”
Shamus glanced at him as the car careened dangerously through the open gateway. “I called her yesterday. She’s looking forward to seeing her favourite nephew and his travelling companions.”
“Who did you tell her Sam and Maggie were?”
“I said nothing. The explanation is up to you.”

Of course, Lillian Grant’s trademark is her erotic humour, and that flowed in abundance – too much to capture in one review.

The strict Irish aunt that refused to allow hanky-panky in her cottage. Michael had to come up with a rapid excuse for why three single people would be sharing:

Sam dropped the cases on the floor, folded his arms and glared at Michael. “And why did I have to be gay? Why couldn’t you be gay?”
“Because it’s bad enough I’m a bleedin’ ballerina.”

The hilarious game of drunken strip poker, to determine who took the double bed:

She turned to Sam. “Sam.”
He lifted his head off the table and forced his eyes open. “What, what did I miss?”
“The Irish git’s cheating, and now he wants a kiss.”
“I don’t want to kiss him. I don’t kiss men.”
“Not from you, stupid. From me.”

And Michael’s razor sharp one-liners:

“Sian Riley.” Well now, wasn’t she a blast from the past.
“Michael f*cking Monaghan.”
“Actually, I’ve dropped the f*cking. I thought it sounded a little pretentious.”

I know whenever I settle down with one of Lillian Grant’s novels, I’m in for a treat and Hot Male is no exception. Can Michael ever have any chance with Meg, when she is so in love with Sam?

Life could go back to normal. Although normal without pursuing Maggie was not something he was looking forward to. What the f*ck was wrong with him? She was taken. And nothing he did could change that.

Being stuck in a tiny one-bedroomed cottage, during the coldest winter in years, there is a shift in their focus. Sam walks into the kitchen and finds Michael massaging Meg’s neck:

5974760_sSam wasn’t oblivious to the bulge in the front of Michael’s skin tight leather pants but it didn’t horrify him as much as the pump of blood to his own cock. He hated the slimy stripper. Meg belonged to him, and yet, the thought of her being pleasured by another man while he watched seemed oddly appealing.

All of a sudden, all bets are off – in the most thrilling, sexy way. Surely if Meg could have both Sam and Michael, she’d say yes…wouldn’t she?

There was so much in this story. I loved the way Michael to every opportunity to wind up Sam, and how Sam always took the bait:

Sam lifted his mug and took a long slow drink, his eyes focused on Michael. “I know exactly what’s going on in that seedy little brain of yours.”
Michael chuckled. “Maybe it’s because you’re having the same idea.”
“I’ll never let you touch her. She doesn’t want you.”
“Are you sure about that? Have you even asked her?”
“I don’t need to ask her.”
“So you haven’t then. Maybe you’re afraid of the answer or maybe you’re worried because you want me to join in as much as she does.”

And then just when you think you have it all figured out, Lillian throws a curve ball and you’re reminded just why the trio were in Ireland in the first place. Clara turns up.

“She’s determined to find her own justice with a gun. Either Declan goes home with her or she’s going to blow his nuts off.”

Can Michael fight his psychotic aunt Clara, rescue crazy Great Aunt Maud, make peace with Sam and win Meg’s heart? You’ll have to read it to find out. Fasten your seat belt, it’s a scorching ride!

This is comedy erotic romance at its very best. I promise, you will NOT be disappointed 🙂
