Guest SigI popped my cherry….writing MM Stories

I got my cherry popped. Wait get that look off your face and mind out of the gutter. I mean I wrote my first M/M Story that totally took me by surprise since it started out as an M/F story. Somehow, it turned itself around and my hero balked at being with the heroine I picked out for him. He wanted someone else…the new man in town-NOT this barmaid who I thought was perfect for him. Call me crazy but changing it to a MM story worked…better than I even expected.

Yes, I know what you are thinking (ha never knew I was psychic did you?), how could you write a MM when you write MF stories? Easy because that was what my characters and muse told me to do. J I am a slave to the muse and story ideas so when a story doesn’t work no matter how many times I try to pound it in a square hole when in fact it’s a round hole it needs to go in, I listen…after I bang my head against the wall and curse my characters for a few days. *laughs*

Writing my first two MM short stories had me on pins and needles…mainly because I know so many GBLT authors and admire them that for myself, writing my two felt like I was being initiated in a club of sorts. I love reading MM stories…heck I am practically addicted to them. *grins* But writing one? Oh man, I get the shakes and the butterflies flew in my stomach like they were in the damn grand prix. So finally after much second guessing, hemming and hawing, I finally took the leap and wrote in one day two short stories. One was a little paranormal story based on a picture of Joe M. from True Blood in a tree-shirtless- and I had Alex from A Summer Night Fling yelling in my ear. From that moment on, I pounded out a short 7000+ story for Hot Summer Fun anthology, ten M/M stories from some of the best M/M authors out there. It released this past June in e-book & Print and another for the On Valenetine’s Day anthology that had my story featuring secret admirer, roses and my hero’s recipe for Red Velvet Truffles that is also available in e-book and Print.

In ‘A Summer Night Fling’, Alex is a were-cat and Cal is a paranormal rights lawyer who went through a bad break up. These two called to me and frankly what readers told me when I posted a short flash fiction scene from it, they loved it. In ‘Moonlight Masquerade’, we meet Skylar, a baker who feels like he is a loser in romance and when he finds himself in the eye of a secret admirer, well let’s just say he doesn’t know whether to be flattered or scared out of his wits. Both stories were a joy to write and I hope you enjoy them.

I can’t say I will write primarily MM stories now but I like switching back and forth if the story calls for it. Listening to my characters had me almost missing the magic of this one and I am glad I took that leap of faith.

So there you have it…I had my MM cherry popped and it was quite enjoyable too. J

Inspiration hits at odd times and for Raine, a blank word document page gives her many possibilities on story ideas.  Living with her two kids, a significant other who supports her every move in writing and doesn’t seem to mind she gets up at 2 am to type away on the computer. With a love for Johnny Depp, movies and 80’s hair bands, Raine finds a way to bring all her chaotic thoughts into a story that tells her readers about love and romance.
