She hired him to take her virginity…but now she wants even more.

17206996Lori might be a popular romance writer, but she’s never been anything but a flop with sex and love in her personal life. Still a virgin at twenty-six and increasingly frustrated by her inexperience, she decides to take matters into her own hands. She hires a talented, sexy male escort to take care of her inconvenient virginity.

She assumes one time with Ander will be enough, but she never dreams how much pleasure he can make her feel. Once isn’t nearly enough. Twice isn’t enough either. Soon, she becomes one of his regular clients.

Lori knows that nothing would be as foolish as falling in love with her paid escort, but she’s never been wise with her heart. And, despite his professionalism, he doesn’t seem entirely immune either.

Lori Addison sat in a crowded coffee shop in
downtown Seattle, nursed a caramel mocha, and tried to pretend she wasn’t

This was recommended to me by my Best Book Buddy, someone who knows my taste in books even better than I sometimes know myself. She gave it the highest of ratings, told me it was the best book she’d read all year. I leapt at it!

I enjoy escort-books. I like reading about the guys that are paid for sex and how they fall in love with their clients, and I settled down to read Escorted with a hopeful smile on my face. I already knew that Ander, the escort, would be reserved and professional, while Lori (the client) would be both nervous and excited.

To make things even more difficult, Lori was a virgin – and a best selling romance writer. She felt increasingly desperate to shed her virginity and decided that the anonymous atmosphere of paying for someone to deflower her, would be the best route. With that in mind, she contacted Ander after several personal recommendations.

The man smiled – an urbane, sensual smile that ignited even his blue-gray eyes. He reached a hand out to her in greeting. “I’m Ander.”

Lori was convinced she wanted no pretence at an emotional connection with Ander. She wanted sex, and nothing else.

“You’re in control of this,” Ander said, holding her gaze with a cool expression.” We do whatever you want to do. I can act however you want me to act. Just tell me.”

“I don’t want you to pretend to be romantic or hot for me or anything. I want it to be… be real. I mean, don’t pretend we’re doing anything other than we are.”

It was very clinical. What I jokingly refer to as IKEA-sex – insert Tab-A into Slot-B, and repeat. However, Lori enjoyed it more than she thought, and soon she was scheduling regular sessions with Ander.

Ander’s unravelling was slow and steady. His practised, urbane smile was eventually replaced by a natural one, and the more often they met, the more he relaxed with her. She still refused to allow him to kiss her, hold her, or pretend there was anything between them at all, and I found this increasingly frustrating. It was blindingly obvious to me, the reader, that Ander not only had ‘feelings’ for Lori, but he was BESOTTED with her. He may as well have tattooed LORI-I-LOVE-YOU on his forehead, for all the notice she took! She wouldn’t have seen it.

The sheer amount of sex in this book was staggering. Probably the first 70% takes place almost exclusively in bed / on the sofa. But it’s cold. Sterile. Mechanical.

And then I twigged. Claire Kent was being very clever in her writing, and I was just slow to figure it out. The first half of the book was cold and purely physical, because that was how Lori viewed their relationship. Aha! The light bulb flicked on inside my head. I read with renewed eagerness, keen to watch the barriers fall away as the couple finally gave in to each other. The sex would become passionate and emotional any minute… but alas, it didn’t quite get there. It hotted up, and there were some deeply moving segments as Lori learned the hidden aspects of Ander’s life, but it fell short of what I’d hoped.

It was hard to write this review since 99.9% of reviewers adored it. I liked it, and yes I read it quickly, but I need to be emotionally invested in a book in order to love it. I liked Ander far more than Lori and maybe I just needed some time in his head, from his POV, to love him? I don’t know. I was disappointed that I didn’t like ESCORTED more than I did, but hey. We’re all different.

In case you’re wondering, the next time my Best Book Buddy tells me I HAVE TO read a book, I‘ll be right on it. Even though I didn’t love this, I still had plenty of fun discussing it with her 🙂
