Tomorrow I’ll be MIA as my husband and I are celebrating our ten year anniversary. I still can’t believe it’s been ten years and that’s only how long we’ve been married—we were together for four years before we walked down the aisle.
I still get that fluttery feeling in my stomach when I think about the moment we met. It was the second day of my freshman year in college. I was away from home for the first time in my life and scared to death. I had a handful of friends from high school around but for the most part I was on my own. I didn’t know anyone in my classes and I felt like I was in over my head. Which is why I went to go talk to my adviser. My English teacher had just assigned a two page paper—on the second day of school!—I didn’t even know where the computer lab was. I’d say I was five minutes away from a major meltdown.
I opened the door to the engineering department and there he was. This tall, sexy guy was looking at me with his mouth curved in a cute, little grin.
Suddenly my day wasn’t looking so bad!
He ended up showing me around the department—introducing me to my adviser, showing me where the department computer lab was and telling me about the department’s club meeting later in the week (he was the club president!) That was Tuesday. By Friday he had my phone number. And on Saturday we went on our first date to the State Fair.
Now here we are fourteen years together, ten years of marriage, five cities, and two countries later.
And he still makes me all fluttery in my stomach.
