Another winner from the Entangled Brazen line – and a great start to a new rocker series. What more could I want for?

She’s totally off-limits, but this rocker wants a taste…
Jamison Matthews has lusted after Ryder Montgomery since she was a preteen. But now that Ryder and her brother’s band, Shaken Dirty, has made it huge, she’s just one of many pining for the brooding lead singer. Too bad Ryder still sees her as a little sister. Not that it matters. Her brother would never allow it, and the last thing Jamison wants is to be another notch on a rock star’s bed post. Even if it’s Ryder’s.
Ryder doesn’t deserve happiness. After his fame destroyed his last girlfriend, he swore he’d never fall in love again. So when Jamison, the girl he’s been in danger of loving for years, joins the band on the road, he’ll do anything to deny the sparks between them–even after one hot night together. But Jamison is determined to show Ryder that he’s worthy of love–her love–and that she’s all grown up and ready to play.

We have several excellent tropes in this book: rock stars on tour (and behaving badly, of course); the tortured hero-backstory; and a particular favourite of mine, the friends-to-lovers. And before I forget, the brother’s-best-friend trope. * happy sigh *
Ryder is your typical rock star, but he has a soft spot for Jamison, his very off limits best-friend’s little sister. Meanwhile, she’s wanted him forever, but always been pushed aside, and now she decides it’s time to go after what she wants.
If he was actually going to have to get out on a dance floor with Jamison and all those gorgeous curves of hers— or worse, stand there while she snuggled up to the rest of the guys— he was going to be dead drunk when he did it. Anything else didn’t bear thinking about.
Getting drunk though, means he’s more likely to suffer from a nightmare, and Jamison is there to see it.
His nightmares were off limits to everyone, even to the guys in Shaken Dirty, and he hated that she’d seen him like that.
Out of control.
Told you I loved a tortured hero, and Ryder plays the part very well 🙂
“Didn’t you get the memo? I’m a rock star, baby.” He sneered at her. “I’m way too self-absorbed to worry about anything but where my next drink and fuck are coming from.”
“Bullshit.” She put a trembling hand in the middle of his chest, right over his heart. Figuring she must be cold, he reached for the blanket at the end of the couch, started to cover her up. But then he realized she wasn’t the one shaking. He was. Goddammit.
There was plenty I loved in this book. Ryder’s doubts about getting involved with Jamison, her doubts about whether she can risk her heart, and then there is her brother Jared’s reaction.
They stared at each other, stale-mated for long seconds. Then Jared closed his eyes and took a few deep breaths, and all of the aggression seemed to flow out of him. “Look, I’m sorry. I’m not trying to bust your balls, Ryder. I’m really not. But, dude, you go through women like you go through condoms. Like they’re cheap, disposable, and mean nothing more than your next fuck. Which is fine. I get it. I really do. If I had all your shit to deal with, I’d probably do the same thing. But you know Jamison deserves better than that.”
They have a lot to contend with. Add in a lively rock star vibe, some excellent (and equally troubled) secondary characters, and it all adds up to an absorbing and fun read. Hot too!
