4 Silken Sheets

Yep. This ticks many of my must-read boxes: military, tortured hero, M/M, super-hot-sex, ink and piercings. Mmmmmmmm.

Everyone knows that Prophet—former Navy SEAL, former CIA spook, full-time pain in the ass—works alone and thinks only about the trouble he can cause. But his boss, Phil Catch a Ghost - coverButler of Extreme Escapes, LTD., has just assigned Proph not only a new partner but also a case haunted by ghosts from Proph’s past. Suddenly, he’s got to confront them both head on.

Tom Boudreaux—failed FBI agent, failed sheriff, full time believer in bad luck—is wondering why the head of a private contracting firm has hunted him down to offer him a job. Still he’s determined to succeed this time, despite being partnered with Prophet, EE, LTD’s most successful, lethal, and annoying operative, and even though the case is also resurrecting his own painful past.

Together, Prophet and Tom must find a way to take down killers in the dangerous world of underground cage matches, while fighting their own dangerous attraction. And when they find themselves caught in the crossfire, these two loners are forced to trust each other and work together to escape their ghosts . . . or pay the price

I’d heard other people talking about this series, and was curious to see what was so different about it. I think EXPLOSIVE sums it up!

Yep. This ticks many of my must-read boxes: military, tortured hero, M/M, super-hot-sex, ink and piercings. Mmmmmmmm.

11251187_s“He was randomly chosen for a pat-down. We found his piercings and now he’s putting himself through the X-ray machine,” she said wearily, like she’d seen it all before. And Prophet could only shrug in sympathy as they watched Tom climbing onto the conveyor belt and lying down flat on his back.

She motioned for Prophet to follow her. As Tom’s x-ray came through the machine, Prophet almost bit off his tongue. Clear nipple piercings and slightly more blurry cock piercings. Jesus, he hadn’t expected that.

Tom is really not sure about working with Prophet. I love his thought processes 🙂

He’d partner with the guy for this job, prove himself to Butler, and then he’d ask to work with someone new. For all he knew, Prophet the Great would do the same thing.

How bad could it possibly be?

He opened the one email he found and stared at the ticket that popped up, revealing his first trip.

To Eritrea.

With Prophet.

In a small office. For three months. So yeah, it was bad. Really, really goddamned, motherfucking horribly bad.

24993622_sThe characters are both messed up, Proph especially, and you desperately want to fix them. Although the story is mainly from Tom Boudreaux’s perspective, we are in Proph’s head enough to get more than a feel for him. Prophet is a bundle of non-stop, toe-tapping, adrenaline. He can’t sit still, and when the story begins, Prophet has both wrists in plaster casts.

Prophet stared down at his fingers in the casts again and sighed. Picked at the edges. Wondered if he went into an ER and complained about pain whether they’d take them off for him, then remembered he was banned from the two closest ERs.

I loved that both men had a hint of something else. A sixth sense, that meant they could work brilliantly together.

He prepared to relax, maybe grab some sleep, when his internal warning radar went off. He’d always had more situational awareness than most, but the training he’d received brought it to levels that sometimes drove him nuts.

He was turning in his seat casually, trying to assess what the hell was happening, when Tom opened his eyes, took off his headphones and said, “Something’s wrong.”

The action is fierce and attention-grabbing, as they investigate and try to close down the illegal fight ring, and the sexual chemistry between Tom and Proph is tangible. When they finally get together… * mops brow * I was satisfied and I wasn’t even there!

There are enough strong secondary characters to make this a fully rounded story, and although it doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, it would be very hard for you not to go and seek the next book in the Hell or Highwater series right away. I know I did.

PS – A special mention for the super-elusive British agent, Cillian, who – I was thrilled to see – gets to appear in a spin-off series, Dirty Deeds * happy dance *
